hi there.png

I’m Jessica Burke. (that’s me with the purple hair) If you’re wondering about my photography background, I’ve told the “really long story” down below. If you don’t have time for all that, the quick and dirty is I got into wedding photography in 1996 and I’ve photographed so many weddings I’ve lost count. Ok, I never really kept count, but it has to be approaching 1,000 if not more. Bottom line I’ve been doing this a long time and I’m pretty good at it, if I do say so myself (insert winky face emoji here).

I’ve always been drawn to art and have fond memories of drawing and painting as a child and in my early teens. I dabbled in photography, intrigued by the medium but it wasn’t until my family moved back to New Orleans in 1996 that I got my real introduction to the world of professional photography - my first job as an office assistant for my uncle’s photography business. I continued working for my uncle as an office assistant and shoot assistant, shadowing him and learning the basics. I began my freshman year of college in 1998 and began working toward my degree in Studio Arts. In 1999, I secured a job working for a local Master Photographer as a second shooter, darkroom technician and office manager.

Since then, I worked for some of the best photographers and videographers in the New Orleans area learning the technical side of this creative art and honing my artistic eye over the course of more than a thousand weddings and countless more portrait and commercial shoots. In 2002, I completed my Bachelors of Studio Arts and in 2003, I  opened my first business, Fine Art Exposure. During this time I continued shooting and working on many creative projects in the wedding world, including serving as Creative Director and Graphic Designer for New Orleans Weddings Magazine.

In 2008, I was offered the opportunity to buy New Orleans Weddings Magazine and I did! Being the owner and publisher of the magazine I have had the honor of working with the best of the best in this industry and I have been able to learn more and more about the non-photography side of the wedding world.

In 2009, the first of my 4 boys was born and over the next few years I decided I needed to take a break from wedding photography and focus (pun intended) on the magazine. I never lost my love for the medium and still regularly shot editorials for the magazine and worked on personal projects.

In 2019, I decided it was time to return to the world of wedding photography and so here I am! I still own New Orleans Weddings Magazine and I’m on a personal quest to figure out just how to incorporate all my personal interests into my daily life.

You can usually find my nose in a good book or on the yoga mat. I love painting and drawing and I’m *finally* exploring a small obsession I’ve had with makeup artistry. I am *slightly* obsessed with personality psychology and what makes people tick. (I’m an INFJ in the Myers Briggs system and I’m constantly looking for what’s behind the curtain.)
